William Shakespeare‘s magical play The Tempest, long-believed to be the last play he ever wrote, is coming to the big screen in a visionary new incarnation which was directed by the amazing Julie Tamor. While The Tempest is not one of the Shakespeare plays that I know best (I think I read it in high school or college, but only once) I am a big fan of new films based on Willy‘s legendary plays. I’ve spoken before about some of my fave movie adaptations (films based on MacBeth, Hamlet, Richard III, Much Ado about Nothing, Romeo and Juliet to name but a few) and this new incarnation of The Tempest looks really damn good. Helen Mirren is THE QUEEN and I am very much looking forward to seeing her take on the usually male role of the magician Prospero and making it her own. Blah. As much as I loathe Russell Brand, I think I might have to overlook his inclusion as best I can and see this film anyways. I’m of the mind that not enough people appreciate Shakespeare for the genius he was. All controversy aside (did he write his plays, etc.), the body of work attributed to him helped shape the English language … not only that, he tells a damn good story. I am really looking forward to seeing The Tempest. This trailer, Russell Brand notwithstanding, has really got me excited.

Neil Patrick Harris, star of “How I Met Your Mother,” is a father twice over.

According to a Twitter message Friday from Harris that was confirmed by his publicist, the actor and his partner, David Burtka, welcomed twins this week.

Harris tweeted, “Babies!! On 10/12, Gideon Scott and Harper Grace entered the Burtka-Harris fold.” He added, “All of us are happy, healthy, tired, and a little pukey.”

The 37-year-old actor announced earlier this year that he and Burtka would become parents of twins. He didn’t say whether they were adopting or using a surrogate.

Harris, who plays Barney on the CBS sitcom, won an Emmy Award this year for a guest appearance on “Glee” and shared in another Emmy for the Tony Awards, which he hosted.

At the start of last month we got our first look at actress Rooney Mara on the Swedish set of the US remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and today we get our first look at her co-star Daniel Craig filming his first scenes for the film over the weekend. As you should already know, the Dragon Tattoo trilogy is being remade for the English-speaking audience … here are photos of Daniel Craig in the role of Mikael Blomkvist:

It’s one of the most hotly-anticipated movies of all time. After it was announced Hollywood would be remaking the original Swedish adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s famous novel The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, the question on everybody’s lips was who would be playing lead character Mikael Blomkvist. And now James Bond star Daniel Craig has started shooting the blockbuster on the streets of Stockholm, Sweden. The 42-year-old actor was spotted shooting one of the opening scenes of the novel on the steps of a courthouse in Stockholm yesterday. Craig was also seen chatting to director David Fincher before another scene shot later in the day. There was no sign of Craig’s co-star Rooney Mara, who will be playing the title character Lisbeth Salander, on set, although she was pictured arriving in Sweden [to begin] training for one of the film’s many motorcycle scenes. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is the first book in Larsson’s trilogy and tells the story of journalist Blomkvist, who teams up with computer hacker Salander to attempt to solve the disappearance of a young girl called Harriet Vanger. And while the Hollywood version of the film is sure to be a hit, director Fincher insists he isn’t trying to remake Niels Arden Oplev’s Swedish film. He said in a recent interview: ‘There is absolutely no reason to do such a thing. Steve Zaillian has written the new screenplay and he based it on the book and made his own version. ‘Sure, there are scenes that will resemble those in the Swedish film, but it is the book that we are filming.’ Meanwhile, Fincher also confirmed that British actress Joely Richardson would be joining the cast, although he did not reveal which character she will be playing. Steven Berkoff has also signed on to the film, and is believed to be playing Lisbeth’s villainous conservator Nils Bjurman. The movie is expected to be released in late 2011.

HMMMM … while I fully trust that David Fincher will make a fantastic movie, I’m a bit nervous about a screenplay that will be a new “version” of the original tale. I was so blown away by the original Swedish film that I find it hard to believe that any new version will be able to improve on the source material … but I’m willing to reserve judgment until we see more. My guess is that Joely Richardson has been cast as Mikael‘s co-worker/girlfriend Erika Pink reader Amy reminds me that Robin Wright (formerly Penn) has been cast as Erika. Production on Dragon Tattoo is now in full swing … it shouldn’t be long before we get to see and hear more from the set.

Alki David, a billionaire entrepreneur allegedly offered Rodriguez one million dollars if he would follow through on a streak bet that would have him showing off his birthday suit at the President’s rally in Philadelphia. Juan James Rodriguez is the Obama rally streaker. What people won’t do for a million dollars! Billionaire Alki David offered Rodriguez one million dollars if he followed through on a bet that would have him streaking in front of President Barack Obama. During a rally in Philadelphia, Juan fulfilled his end of the bet!

David is known for paying people to do stunts as such. The billionaire offered Rodriguez some money but he had to meet the criteria that he requested. So what were the details of that bet?

According to The Sun, Alki offered a cool million to the very first person to streak in front of President Barack Obama. In addition to being in the buff, he promised to dish out cash if and only if the streaker promoted his website Battlecam on their chest while performing the streak. Other requirements included that the streaker must scream “his website’s name battlecam.com six times and be within ear and eye shot of the President.” All of this had to be done while in the nude.

Rumor has it that it has taken two months for someone to take Alki up on this offer. I know a lot of people who, if they had known about this, would have taken up on streaking bet in a heartbeat!

Needless to say, Juan James Rodriguez was taken away by police and arrested for public display of nudity.
